R is a statistical coding language which has become one of the key tools for journalists. It's great at handling large datasets, and many news organisations are using R now, especially for visualisation. These three sessions will get you over the first few hurdles and show you how to build up confidence with a scripting tool. In Part 1 we will talk about why R is a good language to learn, how to get started, how to import the data you need and start working on it. By the end of these three sessions you will know how to import data into R, reshape it to meet your needs, analyse the data, and visualise it. You will be able to export the scripts and continue working with them after the sessions.

Prior knowledge: No coding experience necessary - these sessions will get you started with R from zero knowledge

All the software necessary will be pre-installed on the school computers. Participants who want to join with own laptops do not need any tools, a cloud version of the software will be used.
